The Mastiff, abbreviation of English "Old English Mastiff", is a dog breed. Its name "Mastiff" comes from "masty" which means "powerful". In the Cynographia Britannica, it is said: "What the Lion is to the Cat the Mastiff is to the Dog" ("What the Lion is to the Cat the Mastiff is to the Dog"). In terms of mass, it is one of the largest dog breeds, although exceeded in size by the Irish Wolfhound and the Great Dane.

Chapter 1
Getting to know the Mastiff
Character
Daily temperament
These are dogs with naturally good character, placid and strangely gentle. It is a dog that enjoys in an apartment, as in the countryside, it curiously does not take up much space, only asking for the complete attention of its masters (it cannot tolerate solitude). Mastiffs, however, need exercise and activities every day to keep them in shape, although they sometimes prefer to sit rather than run after the ball you throw them (especially if you throw it far). Suspicious of strangers, it is a good guard. Its mere presence in a garden is enough to intimidate. It is a dog that learns very quickly and whose training happens naturally, because that is how its temperament is. You get nothing from this dog by showing brutality, it only understands gentleness. Raising your voice immediately puts it off and it is no longer possible to get anything from it for a long time. It is a generally tender dog with children, but which does not know its strength and which can be rough without intending to. Despite its gentleness and kindness of soul, it is a dog with enormous physical strength that can be hard to hold on a leash.
