Canids of the graïoid type or more commonly of the greyhound type, have as anatomical characteristics a long dolichocephalic head (the width of the head does not exceed half its length, exception for whippets and small Italian greyhounds due to size), a slender body and a particularly descended chest, or a morphology specifically determined for running. It was the French veterinarian Jean Pierre Mégnin who first divided dogs into four types, lupoid, molossoid, bracoid and graïoid.
