Origins & history
A story told
The Czechoslovak Vlcak is a relatively recent breed, created in Czechoslovakia in 1955 by crossing German Shepherds with Carpathian she-wolves. The experiment conducted by Czechoslovak military was continued until 1965 and demonstrated that it was possible to obtain a line capable of breeding both from wolf-dog crosses and dog-wolf crosses. The biological experiment evolved into systematic breeding and in 1982 the Czechoslovak Vlcak was recognized as a national breed in Czechoslovakia. The breed was then officially recognized by the FCI, provisionally in 1989 and definitively in 1999.
