The German Quail Dog (Deutscher Wachtelhund) is a dog breed originating from Germany. It is a medium-sized hunting dog and game flusher with long and wavy hair, sometimes curled with drooping ears. Overall longer than tall, it should never give the impression of being long-legged. It is a breed described as lively, docile and passionate about hunting.

The color of its coat is solid dark brown, or shades of red fox, brown roan, spotted brown and white, harlequin, or tricolor. The term "Wachtelhund" meaning "quail dog" dates back several centuries. However, this breed was created around 1890 by Frederick Roberth, a German breeder. Several hunting dogs with long hair of small and medium size were used for crosses. The first registered representative in the stud book is Lord Augusta 1834 L, a dog from Staufenberg. During the breed's development, roan and brown varieties were not crossed together, in order to control inbreeding and preserve the distinct hunting abilities of the two colors. Today, this separation is no longer respected. The ability to point was never selected.
