The American Bully is a companion dog breed resulting from crosses between the American Staffordshire Terrier and the American Pit Bull Terrier, including some other mastiff-type breeds. Four main categories are defined by the American Bully Kennel Club: Pocket, Standard, Classic and XL. Several violent attacks by these dogs are reported. In France, depending on its morphology, each of these dogs can be individually classified as a category 1 or 2 dog, dangerous to humans.

Getting to know the American Bully
Origins & history
A story told
The breed was created during the 1980s and 1990s, based on the American Staffordshire Terrier and American Pit Bull Terriers supplemented by several bulldog-type breeds. It was created with the aim of making it a companion dog. It has been recognized by the United Kennel Club (UKC) since July 15, 2013. However, it is not recognized by the International Cynological Federation. Not recognized by the SCC (Société centrale canine), individuals are also not registrable in the French Stud Book. While some of the founding breeders, such as Razor's Edge owner Dave Wilson, claim to use only the two breeds (American Staffordshire Terrier and American Pit Bull Terriers) to produce the desired dogs, there is consensus to use at least five other breeds. These are the American Bulldog, English Bulldog, Olde English Bulldog, Staffordshire Bull Terrier and French Bulldog.

Breed standard
The standard American Bully should give the impression of great strength relative to its size. It is a compact dog of medium to large size with a muscular body and a massive head. It should appear to have heavy bone structure with a substantial structure and appearance. There is no size condition; it should not appear obese.
