Getting to know the Affenpinscher
Origins & history
A story told
This breed of dog originating in Germany is very ancient. Originally it was probably family dogs. Similar dogs were depicted as early as the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries by artists Jan Van Eyck and Albrecht Dürer. In the seventeenth century, German merchants and farmers used it for its formidable qualities as a ratter. Today it is primarily a companion dog.
Character
Daily temperament
A happy mix of exuberance and wisdom, this small companion animal, playful and dynamic, loves to clown around. It is also obedient and calm at times. The Affenpinscher is perfectly adapted to apartment living and the maintenance of its coat is very easy. Its attachment to the home, its fearlessness, and its vigilance make it an excellent guardian. It is also a good rodent hunter. During competitions, fearful or aggressive behavior results in disqualification.
