Trachemys scripta elegans, the Florida turtle or Red-eared Slider or Red-eared Turtle and Red-eared Turtle is a subspecies of turtles of the family Emydidae present in the wild in North America, where it originates, and in Europe, where it is now naturalized. It is easily identifiable by the unique reddish spots it has on its temples. One can also note its yellow plastron and its dorsal shell of greenish-brown to brown color. When young, they are yellowish-green.
