Hepsetus or 'African pike' is a genus of teleost fish in the Hepsetidae family and order Characiformes. For a long time it was believed that only one species existed, Hepsetus ode, but studies in 2011-2013 showed that this species is more widely distributed in certain regions of West and Central Africa. One species is well known from southern Africa, including in the Kafue River, Hepsetus cuvieri. These predatory fish reach sizes of up to 70 cm in length.
