Copella is a genus of teleost fish of the family Lebiasinidae and of the order Characiformes. Species of the genus Copella are found in various tributaries of slow-flowing water in the Amazon and other large rivers of South America, particularly in the northern part of the continent in Guyana and Venezuela. One of the species, Copella arnoldi, has the peculiarity of laying its eggs on leaves overhanging the water surface.

The complete development of the eggs thus takes place outside the liquid element but the parents take care to spray them regularly to prevent them from drying out. At hatching, the fry fall back into their natural element, carried by water droplets, to continue their development.
