Physical
Breed standard
This perch measures up to 25 cm in length and weighs up to 150 g. Its general hue is gray, olive, or brown. Its dorsal and anal fins are short with solid spines. This freshwater fish breathes atmospheric air at the surface of the water. It can hoist itself into the grass and climb onto the bank to reach another body of water using its rigid spines located near its gills and pectorals. It can survive dry on land for 6 hours, and for several days in puddles or wet mud. It can cross a dry season by burying itself in mud. It is also capable of surviving in salt water.
