The Chinese Hamster (Cricetulus griseus) or (Cricetulus barabensis) is a hamster species that originates from the deserts of northern China and Mongolia. The species status of the Chinese hamster is highly debated. For many authors, genetic studies do not allow us to prove that it is not merely a subspecies of Cricetulus barabensis. The Chinese Hamster is also called the Chinese Dwarf Hamster or Striped Hamster.
