Getting to know the Vallhund suédois

Character

Daily temperament

The FCI standard describes the Swedish Vallhund as a vigilant, energetic, fearless and lively dog.

Physical

Breed standard

The Swedish Vallhund is a small, short-legged and powerful spitz. There are two types of tail: the long tail or naturally short tail whose dimensions can vary. The carriage of the tail is not specified in the standard. Of medium size, the eyes are oval in shape and dark brown in color. The ears are of medium size, triangular in shape, erect. The ear flap is hard, covered with smooth hair and mobile. Of medium length (about thirty centimeters) for a medium weight (about ten kilos), the guard hair is hard, tight and well-laid with a soft and very dense undercoat. The hair is short on the head and the front of the limbs. It can lengthen on the neck, chest and hind limbs. The colors of the coat are gray, grayish-brown, grayish-yellow, reddish-yellow and reddish-brown. The muzzle, throat, chest, belly, hindquarters, feet and hocks may have a lighter color. Lighter markings on the shoulders, called "harness marks," and on the cheeks are desired. Darker hairs are visible on the back, neck and sides of the body. White is admitted in small amounts such as a narrow list, a spot on the neck or a slight collar.
