A story told
Since the late 19th century, dogs from the island of Shikoku in Japan were crossed with western dog breeds: the Bulldog, the Mastiff, the Great Dane as well as the Saint Bernard and Bull Terrier, in order to establish the standard of the Tosa as we know it today. In Japan, this dog is highly appreciated by yakuzas (Japanese mafia) and particularly for dog fighting which brings a lot of money.
