The Standard Schnauzer is a dog of German origin, belonging to the 2nd group (Schnauzer) of the International Cynological Federation nomenclature. The Standard Schnauzer is a very good guard dog, which will alert you as soon as a stranger approaches your home. A lively dog with rather independent character, it will nevertheless know how to appreciate big cuddles with its owners, while remaining distant with people it does not know.

The Standard Schnauzer being very greedy, you must monitor its diet. Its gluttony will be put to good use to educate it through positive reinforcement methods based on reward (food in the case of this little gourmet). However, Standard Schnauzers having a well-defined character, particularly males, its owners will sometimes have to show patience and perseverance. Originally used to exterminate vermin from stables (and to protect saddles from thieves...), it has retained the ability to attack small animals it may encounter. You will therefore need to monitor it during your walks in nature, for fear of seeing it attack a coypu that was passing by! The coat of the Standard Schnauzer requires regular maintenance, which you can perform yourself with a little training. Sports: The Standard Schnauzer is not authorized in France to engage in activities involving sporting bite. Its liveliness makes it a very popular dog in "agility". Its somewhat "stubborn" character allows it to achieve good results in tracking as it does not get discouraged by the first difficulty encountered. Some subjects are also very talented in obedience, but few practice this discipline because they require training that is very refined, and therefore an experienced master (or very well advised by an instructor who knows how to adapt to the character of this dog).
