The Pumi is a dog breed of Hungarian origin. In 2011, under the government of Viktor Orbán, a dog tax was adopted in Hungary from which the Pumi is exempt on the grounds of being a "Hungarian breed," in the sense of Greater Hungary.

Getting to know the Pumi (dog)
Physical
Breed standard
The Pumi is a herding dog originating from Hungary. Compact, lively, fearless, and enduring, it is immediately recognizable by its curly coat (black, gray, tawny, or white), its ears held two-thirds upright, and its tail curled in a corkscrew at the top of the back. It conceals beneath a facetious and playful air a solid and enterprising character, making it suitable for leading sheep or cattle flocks even under difficult conditions. Its sense of smell being well developed, it has also proven its worth in the fight against carnivores and rodents, as well as as a rescue dog. The first mention of this breed, recognized by the International Canine Federation (FCI) since 1954, dates back to the nineteenth century. The Pumi is an excellent family dog that cannot live in an apartment. Intelligent and full of energy, it needs a lot of movement; it is a perfect sport dog.
