The German Pinscher is a dog originating from Germany, considered a guard dog. Physically resembling the Doberman, it is however closer to the Schnauzer. Note: If this dog resembles them so much, it is because this breed is at the origin of many others. It was selected for its docile and protective character, and its frame (that of males being very square and muscular). It also benefits from a very noble posture, through its vertebral bearing.

Origins & history

A story told

Although its existence is ancient, it is from the beginning of the 19th century that the German Pinscher was the subject of selective breeding. It was then used for hunting rodents and vermin. Like other dog breeds, the German Pinscher was close to extinction in the aftermath of World War II. It was a breeder named Werner Jung who ensured the survival of the breed. In 2003, the German Pinscher is registered as "threatened breed of the year" by the Gesellschaft zur Erhaltung alter und gefährdeter Haustierrassen.

Character

Daily temperament

The German Pinscher is an energetic, intelligent and loyal dog, qualities that make it an excellent companion and guard dog. Although it has great aptitudes for training, agility, dog running, it must nevertheless be educated with firmness.

Physical

Breed standard

The German Pinscher is a medium-sized dog, inscribable in the square. It measures 45 to 50 centimeters at the withers for a weight ranging from 14 to 20 kg. It is a short-haired dog, and while it is very beautiful in black and tan, its other colors seem to be unknown, which vary between reds - fawns - deer red - etc.
