This hound originated from crosses for hunting in the mountainous region of Kyrgyzstan (Tian-Shan or Pamir mountains, among others).

Breed standard
This hound, close to the Afghan Hound, has good vision and good sense of smell. It fears neither heat nor cold. Fast, it is able to hunt over long distances and at high altitudes. It is used to hunt foxes, marmots, badgers and wildcats. In the past, the taigan sometimes hunted in association with a Royal Eagle. A mature taigan is capable of confronting a wolf face to face. This dog is less fast than its cousin the Tazi, but demonstrates a phenomenal ability to climb, particularly when hunting Argali in the mountains.
