The Kurī (term from New Zealand Māori) is an extinct breed of Polynesian dog introduced to New Zealand by the Māori during their migrations from Polynesia, around 1280. It was used by the Māori as a food source, as well as for its skin and fur for making dog skin coats called kahu kurī, belts, decorative weapons and poi. The Kurī disappeared from New Zealand shortly after the arrival of European settlers.
