Getting to know the Gampr

Physical

Breed standard

It is also called Aralza, Kangal, or Gelkheght (from gayl = wolf and kheghtel = strangle; literally "wolf strangler"). They live in a very harsh, hostile environment full of predators (bears, wolves, lynx...). These dogs are generally reputed to be very suspicious of those they don't know, but they are devoted to their master and family, their herd. Gamers maintain very strong atavism (even when they no longer live in the mountains) to watch over cattle, sheep, and goats. They are mainly used as guard dogs and companion dogs. They are anything but bloodthirsty killers; these are intelligent, independent dogs because they are accustomed to making decisions alone, without the shepherd's presence, but they are very close to family and very protective. They are not dogs from recent crosses to make them fighting dogs, but true working dogs, resulting from both millennia of human selection and the work of nature (natural selection) that forged their character and their physique.
