The Irish Water Spaniel or Irish Water Dog (in Irish: An Spáinnéar Uisce; in English: Irish Water Spaniel) is a dog breed of Irish origin. It is a medium-sized dog with drop ears, long and curly coat over the entire body except the muzzle and throat, and a tail devoid of curly hair at the extremity compared to a "rat tail". This latter characteristic gives it the nicknames of whip tail and rat-tail.

The coat is a solid liver chestnut color. The Irish Water Spaniel is a hunting dog, generally intended to be a water dog, due to its oily coat well adapted to damp environments. It is generally assumed that the breed developed from Persian dogs that arrived in Ireland via Spain. The presence of the "rat tail", which exists in no other breed of dog in Group 8, may be evidence that the Irish Water Spaniel is a breed descended from an ancestor from Ireland. The existence of water dogs hunting waterfowl is attested in Ireland as early as 1607. The development of the breed through the opening of a studbook began in the mid-19th century; the first breeding club was created in 1890.
