Origins & history
A story told
The Danish-Swedish Farm Dog is a dog traditionally used on farms in Denmark and southern Sweden as a guard dog and ratter. The breed is considered one of the ancient breeds of these countries, and some breed promoters trace it back to the Viking era. The breed is recognized in these two countries in 1987, where it is still used as a farm dog and ratter, but now mainly as a companion dog. The breed is recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) provisionally on July 5, 2008. From the 1990s until 2012, registrations of the breed in the Danish-Swedish Book of Origins are in regular increase and reach 681 subjects registered in 2012.
