Romagnol Water Dog

Originally a hunting dog, the Lagotto Romagnolo was subsequently selected for truffle hunting. As a result, it largely lost its hunting instinct. It is an affectionate dog, very attached to its master, it is of remarkable gentleness and shows itself particularly tender and affectionate daily. This makes it an excellent companion dog for the whole family. Endowed with beautiful energy, this dog can play for hours and hours, both with children and with adults. Yet it is a calm dog: tireless outdoors, it remains calm at home, it never goes to excess. Very balanced, it adapts to its master's mood and knows how to remain quiet when necessary. The Lagotto Romagnolo is particularly intelligent: docile, easy to train, it understands very quickly and obeys with great pleasure. Moreover, it is an auxiliary of great quality for man since thanks to its incredible sense of smell, it is an excellent truffle dog. It is a dog that shows independence because although it is very attached to its social group, it also knows how to stay apart and does not necessarily need permanent contact with its masters to fully bloom.

The Lagotto Romagnolo is a medium-sized breed with a rustic appearance. The curly hair all over the body grows continuously, which requires regular trimming. The general constitution is that of a dog whose trunk fits in a square. The skull is domed when viewed from the front; from the side, it shows a curve that flattens in the occipital region. The muzzle is slightly angular. The eyes are rather large, rounded, with a color ranging from ochre to dark brown depending on the coat. The ears are moderately large in relation to the head volume and drooping; they are carried pendant or slightly raised if the dog is alert. The tail is slightly tapered at the tip, carried low at rest, high when alert. The coat has a woolly texture, semi-rough on the surface, with tight curls, curved in a ring and an obvious undercoat, relatively similar to that of the Poodle. Its color is solid white, white with brown patches, brown roan, solid brown. In some subjects, the presence of a brown mask is noted.
