Physical
Breed standard
The Slovak Wirehaired Pointer is a high-set pointer of solid and not too heavy build. This breed is selected to be a working dog, with nobility in its forms. The tail is docked to half-length when legislation permits. It is set rather high, carried pendulous at rest and horizontal in action. The eyes are almond-shaped, amber in color, with an intelligent expression. In puppies and young dogs, they are blue in color. The pendant ears are set above the eye, are rounded in shape and not too long. The undercoat consists of short, fine down that generally sheds in summer. The coat measures approximately 4 cm, is hard, straight, and lies flat. On the lower part of the muzzle, the hair is longer and softer and forms a mustache. Above the eyes, it is more pronounced and set obliquely. The forehead and occiput are covered with short, hard hair. It is short and soft on the ears. The tail is well-furnished with hair, but not brushed. The basic color is "gray": this is a sand shaded with brown. White markings are permitted at the extremities of the limbs and on the chest. Spots of varying sizes and darker shades may mark the gray. There is also a ticked coat.
