French Pointer Gascony Type

The French Pointer would be the direct descendant of an ancient pointing dog breed described by Gaston Fébus (14th century). The selection of this breed has always been aimed at obtaining an effective pointing dog. The two types of French Pointers are probably descended from Spanish Pointer or Italian Pointer. Outside of France, the French Pointer is little known. Both types originate from the southwest of France and the central Pyrenees.

French Pointers are considered intelligent dogs, obedient and very attached to their master. He likes children. The French Pointer Gascony type is a sporting dog that needs to burn energy. It should be accustomed from a young age to city life.

The French Pointer Gascony type is a mediolline pointer, with a powerful, robust and heavily limbed appearance. The desired height for the Gascony type is 61 to 63 cm at the withers. Females are more refined. The tail is generally docked; it continues the convexity of the croup line well. The natural long or short tail should not be considered a fault if it is well carried. The length of the muzzle is slightly smaller than that of the skull. The head is quite large, but not too heavy. The lines of the skull and muzzle are slightly divergent. The skull is almost flat with a central groove that is not very pronounced. The occipital prominence is not very prominent. The stop is not very marked. The skin is supple and fairly loose. The short-haired coat is brown, brown and white with or without spotting, or brown marked with fawn above the eyes, on the lips and on the limbs.

It is recommended to feed the French Pointer only once a day or twice. Industrial feed is also suitable, but raw feeding, as with all dogs, is recommended.
