Getting to know the Ardennes Cattle Dog

Origins & history

A story told

In the past, all dogs that worked with livestock were called 'Cattle Dogs'. Each region had its own type. These dogs were prized as cattle dogs and guard dogs. With motorization, the need for shepherd and cattle dogs decreased. This farm dog has existed for centuries and the Ardennes Cattle Dog with its current appearance since the beginning of the 20th century. On a farm a dog must be good, that is to say useful without requiring many constraints. This is how the Ardennes Cattle Dog became what it is: a hardy dog with exceptional adaptation skills and requiring very little maintenance. This natural but ruthless selection retained only the most robust, the most intelligent. Today the Ardennes Cattle Dog remains active in farms but is appreciated by families because it is a very pleasant companion requiring little maintenance and little sensitive to diseases. Fans of canine sports are beginning to discover it and appreciate it.

Character

Daily temperament

It is a wary dog (its history taught it to be wary...) it does not rush headlong. Very courageous and adorable with children, it is an ideal guard and defense dog. It is a dog that was selected to work, and it loves it. Constantly moving around its master, it is attentive to what is expected of it. Tireless, it can work in the worst conditions.
