Basati Alaunt

In 1992, the development of the Basati Alaunt began in the town of Arruazu in Navarre, with the objective of creating a canine line adapted to capture and hunting tasks. Unlike certain ancient rediscovered breeds, the Basati Alaunt is not a breed from a historical preservation, but a deliberate selection of functional dogs intended for work. The founders of this selection used capture dogs from varied environments, mainly lineages used for hunting and livestock handling. The selection was based on strict morphological and behavioral criteria in order to ensure optimal abilities for hunting large game, cattle containment and protection.

The Basati Alaunt is recognized for its balanced and stable temperament. It demonstrates great assurance and a noble character, while being attentive and obedient to its master. Its intelligence and adaptability allow it to respond effectively to new situations, making it a versatile dog for different tasks. It is neither fearful nor excessively dominant with other dogs, which encourages its work in packs during hunting or flock guarding. Its determination and tenacity are manifested particularly during capture, where it acts with speed and precision. Its predation instinct is strong, but it remains controllable through appropriate training.
